At its recent meeting, Pembrokeshire Access Group Chairman, Henry Langen, informed the Group of a conference to discuss Disability Hate Crime which he has organised on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service.
This is quite a timely event in view of the recent Panorama programme on this subject. It is hoped that Simon Green who featured in the 'Week in Week Out' documentary on BBC Wales a few weeks ago, and the Panorama follow up, on Monday the 15th February will be attending.
The meeting is to be held on Tuesday 23rd February, starting at 10:00am at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth and lunch will be provided.
Attendance is open to all, free of charge, but prior booking is essential by contacting the Chairman on 01834 861202 so that catering arrangements can be finalised.
Amongst other items discussed was the proposal to charge blue badge holders for parking in Pembrokeshire County Council Car Parks.
Charging for all motorists, including disabled motorists, will begin on 1st April 2010.
It was felt by the group that additional signage should be provided in car parks to warn disabled drivers that they must buy a pay and display ticket or risk receiving a fine. The Group noted that motorists displaying a valid blue badge would have an additional hour added to the expiry time printed on the ticket.
It was agreed that Angela Burns AM would attend the June meeting of the Group. A list of items to be raised with the Assembly Member is to be drawn up prior to the meeting.
To comment or raise concerns on disability matters please contact the Chairman Henry Langen on 01834 861202 or the Pembrokeshire County Council Access Officer Alan Hunt on 01437 775148.
Both will be happy to receive your call. To find out more about the Pembrokeshire Access Group or to join the group please contact Henry or Alan.
