Councillor Suzanne Radford-Smith was officially made Mayor of Narberth at the
Town Council meeting on Tuesday 13th May.
Narberth’s ‘elder statesman’, Cllr. Eric Feetham formally
proposed that Cllr. Radford-Smith be made Mayor for 2008-9. The councillors
present agreed unanimously that the Mayor and her Deputy for this year, Cllr.
Ruth Platt be accepted.
Outgoing Mayor, Cllr. Elizabeth Rogers made a short speech in which she thanked
the council for the help and assistance given her during the previous year,
and described how honoured she had been to represent the town. Cllr. Rogers
welcomed Cllr. Radford-Smith as the new Mayor before the two left the Council
Chamber for the robing ceremony.
In her first speech as Mayor, Cllr. Radford-Smith officially introduced her
aunt, Pauline Lynch as Lady Mayoress. She then went on to thank the outgoing
mayor for her support and congratulated Cllr. Platt on her appointment.
The Mayor continued by congratulating the newly elected Council and thanking
the unsuccessful candidates who had stood at the recent election, Jimmy Price
and Raymond Benson for their interest in the Town, and offered her comiserations
to Susie Lincoln who had lost her seat. Congratulations were also offered to
the re-elected County Councillor, Elwyn Morse, representing Narberth Rural
ward and the unopposed Narberth Urban County Councillor, Wynne Evans, who was
also re-elected to the Town Council.
