The fine weather on Sunday 28 June 2009 meant a busy day for the RNLI volunteers at Tenby, who were called to assist in three separate incidents.
The most dramatic being at 1pm when a swimmer in danger of drowning was rescued and winched to hospital.
The first launch for the station's Tamar class RNLI lifeboat came at 12.30pm, following concerns for the safety of two divers who had separated from a group diving out of Stackpole. As the RNLI lifeboat made its way to the scene, the divers appeared.
The second call-out came just half an hour later, following reports of three swimmers in difficulty nine miles down the coast from Tenby. Two of the swimmers were finding it increasingly difficult to hold of to the weaker swimmer who was in danger of drowning.
Before search and rescue units arrived, a dive boat had rescued all three. They were transferred on to the RNLI lifeboat and the volunteer crew offered First Aid, which included administering oxygen to the weaker swimmer, who had to be winched to hospital by an RAF helicopter. The remaining two were taken back to Tenby on board the RNLI lifeboat.
At 5pm, the Tamar RNLI lifeboat was called to action again following reports of a broken down vessel at Freshwater East. When the volunteer RNLI crew arrived, the boat was already being towed in by a local vessel. The RNLI lifeboat escorted the boats back towards the harbour.
